You may have heard that the Scottish Government has stopped funding ProjectScotland, and may be concerned about what that means for you and your fellow volunteers. You should not worry – you will not be asked to stop volunteering.
What it means for you
The Scottish Government will not be funding our next phase of development. This will only come into effect in April 2008, and current volunteers like you will be fully supported: your placement will stay the same, you’ll still be provided with your £55 allowance and travel costs, and still have the chance to apply for the Personal Development Fund. Until April, we will also continue to welcome new volunteers, and they too will be given our full support.
Future opportunities need funds
After April, we will be welcoming new volunteers as alternative sources of funding come on stream. However, we’re determined to continue because you say it’s good for you, and we see it’s good for the country. We already have support from many businesses and local organisations, and our fantastic fundraising team will find more in the coming months.
How you can help
You can help too by telling as many people as possible about your unique experience of ProjectScotland. Your MSP, local councillors, local businesses, other young people and even the media would benefit from knowing more about what you get up to. If you’d like help getting in touch with them, please give Claire Stewart on 0131 220 9515.
Finally, a word of thanks
The Scottish Government’s decision to stop funding is extremely disappointing, as ProjectScotland has shown itself to be popular and effective. We’re very proud of what you are achieving in your placement and, as a whole, the benefits you and your fellow volunteers are bringing to Scotland. Thank you.
