IN OCTOBER'S VOLUNTEAR:Halloween video special...Story...Email of the Month
Halloween video special...
Howdy Volunteers! How’ve you been since we last spoke?
We have a very special treat for you this month. As October is the month of spooks and ghouls, we at ProjectScotland decided to provide you with a few scares of our own. For your viewing pleasure we have 3 of the most terrifying videos floating around the interweb this Halloween:
1) Perhaps the scariest of the lot to kick off proceedings. I don’t know about you but your Editor certainly found this one terrifying.
2) Next, we have a video that is so bizarre it is positively frightening. Apparently, tourism to Scotland was down 34% in the 12 months after this video was released. I might have made that up. Possibly.
3) If you’re a fan of science fiction then you’ll know about ‘alternate realities’. The next video offers an insight into such a reality where men had perms, wore ridiculously tight trousers and clearly got dressed in the dark. Scientists refer to this ‘reality’ as the ‘1980s’. Scary.
These Boots were made for walking!
Fancy taking in some beautiful scenery and helping future ProjectScotland volunteers at the same time? Get a team together and enter the Thistle Challenge, a charity fund raising event taking place on Saturday, 13th September 2008 in the Caingorms. Volunteering Highland and Osprey Adventures Ltd are organising a hill walk open to all.
Money raised goes to the charity of your choice – Us you say? How kind! The money you raise would help fund a ProjectScotland placement. How good would that feel?! (Sigh.)
So how about it ProjectScotlanders? Take a hike! Defy the midgies! Heather from the Weather assures me that there will be sun in Scotland on that day.

Email of the MonthIt’s strange to find myself at home on a week day. Last week, and for the last four months, I would have been at my wonderful, life-changing ProjectScotland placement. Joining in February with vague ideals of doing my bit, I never imagined how involved I would get. I volunteered as a Youth Development Worker and now I can’t imagine ever having not done it. The kids were wonderful, the office was wonderful, and I walk away from ProjectScotland with so much more knowledge – not just of youth work, but of life. The day I left was incredibly sad. I’m off to volunteer for 10 weeks in Costa Rica/Nicaragua with Raleigh International, but I’ll never forget the experience I’ve had. I’ve laughed (lots), cried (some), met amazing people and met even more amazing young people. So thank you. I will happily recommend ProjectScotland to everyone and anyone! Cheers!Susannah ComptonReality Adventure Works in ScotlandThanks for the recommendation Susannah, £55 on its way. E-mail us at voluntear@projectscotland.co.uk to tell us your chat.
