Run for us, run!

Edinburgh Marathon logoYou can raise money for the noble cause that is ProjectScotland by running the Edinburgh Marathon on May 25th. If you are as fit as Pheidippides then you could run the whole Marathon, or if you don't want to do the 26.2 miles then as part of a team of four you could run the Hairy Haggis Relay. You would have to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship if you are running the whole marathon or your team would have to raise at least that collectively if it's the relay you are going for - that's only £125 each! And don't think that I'm just talking to volunteers - in 2006 a 95 year old ran the relay, so no excuses!

We need at least 5 individuals or teams to run for us to become an affiliated marathon charity, so c'mon VOLUNTEERS, MENTORS, PARTNERS and SUPPORTERS pull on yer trusty sneakers for the future of volunteering. To register your interest (don't worry, that won't be taken as firm commitment yet), e-mail mhairi.brown@projectscotland.co.uk

Be a catalyst for change!

Landing AnimationThe universe may be in a constant state of flux and change but changing things for the better is hard work and sometimes the universe needs a certain nudge in the right direction, something to spark it all off, a catalyst if you will. ProjectScotland is looking for 50 companies to be Catalysts for Change by giving us the financial support to fund 50 volunteer placements.

Like a catalyst you will cause a reaction, without being used up or chemically altered yourself, which helps. If you know someone that works for a big rich business or if you yourself are a big rich business then hurry up and get catalysing! Not only do you get the unique warm lovin’ feeling that only comes from doing the right thing but your company will get a frame on our retro-tastic Wall of Fame!

Go here to find out how your company can be more awesomer!

This is the only sort of keyboard I should be allowed near. Seriously.

Email of the month

I have gained so much through my placements, I became more confident in helping people during the art workshops. One of my biggest achievements was showing a woman how to do glass painting and helping her paint a tee light holder and vase. I have learnt how to refurbish furniture and am now able to fix things instead of throwing them away. I used the skills I learnt whilst volunteering to refurbish four chairs I had at home.

I also had the opportunity to do first aid training and have gained a St Andrews first aid certificate. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at ProjectScotland for giving me the opportunity to gain so many new skills, as a result of my voluntary work with Impact Arts I managed to secure a place at college and am now studying Access to Design. I hope to go on and study Community Arts in the future.

Thanks Abigail Latham

Cheers for that Abigail! Who wants £55 then? Yes that’s right: e-mail, e-mail, e-mail! voluntear@projectscotland.co.uk

Good Volunteer!

Sorry, I’ve been watching Crufts.

ProjectScotland 2525AD: A Volunteering Odyssey

Having consulted my homemade probability engine and an old woman who constantly bakes cookies, I have been granted a glimpse of what the future holds for ProjectScotland…

From our Meta-offices in New Edinburgh IV ProjectScotland is kind of a big deal. There is hardly a facet of life in 26th Century Scotland and her off-planet colonies that is untouched by a ProjectScotland placement, from recycling retired androids to conservation projects in the National Geodesic-Dome. Our volunteers also helped to rebuild society after the disastrous Cyborg uprising of 2487. The Voscars are bigger than the Oscars (due to the film-industry imploding after the 82nd writers strike) and the awards themselves are the equivalent of a knighthood.

The news from the future is good, we are here to stay and you will help make it happen by keeping up the great work, telling your friends and coercing your bosses!
