I am a volunteer youth worker at the Canongate Youth Project in Edinburgh. I want to be a Chemistry teacher and this is a great way to gain experience of working with young people. My days are really varied working with 5-21 year olds either taking the Banana Club on a residential camp or helping get young people ready for work. My placement is for 6 months and even though I’ve only been here for 1 month I can see the benefit already. My confidence is much better and I am learning to be more assertive which can be a real challenge. I have lived in this community for the past 5 years and it feels good to give something back.
