Follow these 5 easy steps

to becoming a Mentor

Follow these 5 easy steps to becoming a Mentor...

1. Apply
Complete our simple application form. Before you start the form think about who you are going to nominate as your referees - we ask for names of two people and their contact details - email addresses are preferred where possible.

2. Short informal interview
If your application is successful you are invited to an informal interview which may be carried out over the phone. The discussion gives you the opportunity to ask any questions and decide if mentoring is right for you. You will be introduced to the "How to be a ProjectScotland mentor manual" packed full of hints and tips about mentoring and you will be given an invite to join the online ProjectScotland mentoring communitity.

3. Training
We want our mentors to feel able and confident to give our volunteers the very best support. You will be invited to attend a ProjectScotland Mentoring training course which will equip you with everything you need to start mentoring and give you the opportunity to meet other mentors. You will be invited to prepare for the mentor workshop by looking at some mentoring scenarios on the ProjectScotland mentor portal.

In some instances you may be asked to complete disclosure forms at this stage.

4. Matching
Once you have completed the above steps you will be matched with your volunteer, you will be sent information about the mentoring opportunity and asked if you would like to proceed. If you think the opportunity is right for you we then introduce you to the volunteer and their line manager.

5. Support
ProjectScotland aim to give you all the support you need whilst you are a mentor. You are given a handbook, invited to join the ProjectScotland online community, invited to events, kept up to date with any ProjectScotland news and you are able to contact a member of the ProjectScotland mentoring team with any questions or issues you have.
