Last minute lolly

As you know we have lost funding from the Scottish Government so we're having a bit of a shake up. We're still offering great full-time placements but we can no longer award the ProjectScotland Personal Development Fund - sob! Our PDF has helped over 300 volunteers to fund further training, education and overseas volunteering trips as well as to set up 60 new businesses. Well isn't that something. But it's not all doom and gloom… volunteers that started their placements on or before the 31st March 2008 are still eligible to apply up until the 31st December 2008.

So, if that's you, what are you still reading this for - GET MOVING! Don't wait for your placement to end before you ask us for lots of lolly. We realise this sucks and if
you're still a bit dazed and confused on this issue then please call your friendly placement co-ordinator on 08458 416 225.

Volunteer Oracle

We're looking for a newbie volunteer to help at ProjectScotland HQ. Unfortunately if you've done a placement with us already you can't apply for this - new customers only! But spread the word…

How do you make 1000's of people fall in love with ProjectScotland every month? Answer: Be the key link between ProjectScotland and our volunteers.

You will be involved in every aspect of volunteer recruitment, research, communication and events. Capturing the attitudes and opinions of young people, promoting our fun youth brand and ensuring a great 'volunteer experience'. You will produce our regular youth emag - The VoluntEar (in case you're not sure – you're reading it!). Develop our online social networking sites on Bebo, Facebook and Myspace. Be responsible for a key research project 'Where are they Now?', getting up-to-the minute case studies on previous volunteers. Generally - our 'word on the street'!

Interested? - Call 08458 416 225 or email

Landing AnimationI was at college doing a Get Ready for Work programme and as part of the course I needed to get some work experience. I had already volunteered part-time for the Bike Station for the last 4 years. A teacher told me I could do a full-time placement there as a ProjectScotland volunteer.

I help out with the customers and get involved with the 'fix your own bike' adult workshops. As part of my placement I was put on a Well-Tech course and qualified as a bike mechanic. I wasn’t sure if I'd pass it so I was really pleased when I did.

I'm not sure exactly sure what I'll go on to do but it will probably involve being a mechanic. I'll still volunteer here even if I get another job. I've been here so long that I know everyone really well. I'm more confident now and would recommend ProjectScotland to my friends.

David Christie, Bike Station

Cheers for that David! Well the PDF might be stopping but there is still £55 up for grabs each month for one lucky volunteer. Tell us your story - go on, go on, go on…
