Two Million Not Out
This December will go down as a landmark month in the short, but glorious, history of ProjectScotland. Thanks to our many, many wonderful volunteers we’ve now racked up our 2 millionth hour of volunteering with community based projects throughout Scotland.
Two MILLION hours! To put it into context, it would take over 1,200 years for someone doing 30 hours of voluntary work per week to clock up that milestone. That is a fair chunk of volunteering by Scotland’s young people we’ve delivered in 3 and a half years. As you can imagine we are pretty chuffed here at ProjectScotland Towers and we think all the 2,800 volunteers who contributed to this deserve a well earned pat on the back.
The two millionth hour was actually delivered by the lovely Sarah Jane Mackie (thats her in the photo with the weans), aged 16, from Easterhouse, Glasgow. She has been volunteering with the Wellhouse Community Trust where she helps out with a whole range of activities involving young children. When she completed the 2 millionth hour, Sarah was actually helping to run a community Christmas show at The Glenburn Centre.
So, thanks to Sarah and all the other volunteers for making this possible. You’re all pure dead brilliant!

Email of the Month
Hi ProjectScotland
I was looking to get work experience to go into university to study Primary education, but didn’t have any idea how to go about this. By chance I saw a ProjectScotland advert at the cinema. I signed up for their "Scotland Reads" programme where you work as a volunteer paired reading tutor in a primary school.
As well as working with ten kids in the school doing reading tuition, I also got to assist in classrooms and got a real insight into what it might be like to be primary school teacher. I did this for six months and loved every second. I was made to feel like a valued member of the school community and given invaluable experience and confidence.
As a result I was able to secure a place at university to study primary education in September. Not only that but the school I was at offered me a full time job for the rest of the term, as a primary one classroom assistant.
I was thrilled and couldn’t have asked for a better outcome of my volunteer placement. I have recommended ProjectScotland to loads of my friends. It’s had a great impact on my future and put me on the right track.
Duncan Ford, Scotland Reads, AberdeenThanks Duncan! Christmas is starting early for you as £55 is on its way.

ProjectScotland wants to hear from YOU!
We always want to hear from our volunteers about how life is treating them since their placement finished. Even though your time as a volunteer may be long gone we're a pretty nosey bunch here and always enjoy hearing from old friends.
So why don't you email us at voluntear@projectscotland.co.uk to tell us your chat. We might even end up using it for the 'Email of the Month' meaning you're £55 richer. Win-win for everyone.
