Superheroes swoop into town

High spirits and heroic escapades were the order of the day for the first ever ProjectScotland Superhero Friday.

You’ll find a wee slideshow of some superhero antics here.  It might take a couple of minutes to download but it is well worth the watch, even if we do say so ourselves…

In total, our wonderful super-dudes managed to raise over £2000

If you want to put your superpowers to good use and help raise some mula for good old ProjectScotland, or even if you just need an excuse to get dressed up in brightly coloured lycra, give our Superhero Friday Team a buzz on 0131 226 0700 or email info@projectscotland.co.uk

Dancing on treadmills and urban pirates

Yes!  Better than Dancing on Ice – it is Dancing on Treadmills.  In recent weeks this TV ad for vitamins has brightened a dull ad break, but I knew I had seen this somewhere before – and done with more style – cue OK Go and their video for "Here it Goes Again".  Aye, it’ s a far superior effort.  Needless to say, please don't try this at your local gym.

I have recently rediscovered the joys of public transport - erratic timetables, long queues and no seats.  At least now I know what happens when the bus trackers count down to “DUE” and the bus doesn’t appear – it has been boarded by Bus Pirates.  Aaargh me hearties!

*** If you can find footage of urban pirates dancing on treadmills we want to see it.  Send us a link to voluntear@projectscotland.co.uk ***

Hello ProjectScotland!

I’m Morvyn from Glasgow and I volunteered with ProjectScotland in 2008.  My placement was with West Lothian Youth Theatre (now Firefly-Arts). During my time with WLYT I assisted with daily drama workshops. This was a great opportunity for me as I got to work alongside industry professionals, who were all inspiring and very creative.  The work WLYT does with young people and children is amazing - getting often painfully shy kids to perform and gain confidence was at times miraculous.

During my time with WLYT I was able to confirm to myself that Community Drama was the area I wanted to go into professionally.  I applied for university while volunteering at WLYT, and I managed to gain direct entry into 2nd year on the Community Drama course at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts as I had lots of experience, thanks to Project Scotland!

Before heading down to Liverpool I spent 3 months in Costa Rica using the skills I had gained through volunteering at WLYT.  In Costa Rica I ran my own community project working with disadvantaged young people using drama and art.  Drama was such an effective tool to use as the skills that the children gained had been completely neglected during their regular education in particular: team work, imagination and creativity.  The end result was a performance about a Time Machine "La Maquina del

Tiempo" that travelled to different worlds, all the costumes and props for the show the kids made themselves.

As they would say in Costa Rica Project Scotland has got "buena onda" good vibes!

Gracias
Morvyn

Muchos gracias Morvyn! Glad to hear everything is going so well.
