Celebrate good times

Volunteers' Week is a UK-wide celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place next month. The 1st-7th June is your chance to shine! So ProjectScotlanders, give yourself a hearty congratulations for all your volunteerering, take a step forward and take a bow - you’re part of something big! Even bigger than the Largest Wobble Board Ensemble who wobbled for 5 minutes to the tune of 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport'.

The UK Catalysts Awards

Have you helped your community by using social technology in new and exciting ways? (That's internet, mobile or gaming software to you and me, like Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, blogging… you get the idea.)

Can you show how technology is enabling people to connect with each other in new ways and to do good things?

Could this idea be reused throughout the country - or even the world? If the answer is "Yes!", then get onto this website and find out more

But then you probably already know that, being so socially well connected and all!

Alex BuntenLife; post ProjectScotland. I volunteered as a Marketing Assistant for my placement at Friends of the Earth Scotland with grand thoughts of working for a charity and doing my bit for the world. I very much enjoyed my time there, learned heaps, developed professionally and at the end got a sweet job for a small Edinburgh charity. Excellent! It gets better…

After 6 months volunteering I applied for the ProjectScotland PDF to fund a CELTA course to teach English abroad (not to mention a week sailing on the west coast to get my RYA Competent Crew certificate!) I figured I studied English at uni, it would make mama mighty proud to see me use some of that vat of knowledge.

Skip to the end… I passed the course! Highly recommend it. I'm now writing to you lovely people from Russia where I landed two days ago to start a 9 month teaching contract here in Moscow. Happy days. On my way home today I stopped and stared at a sign that I had no comprehension of whatsoever and thought to myself - Alex, how in Sam hell did you end up here…? After being swiftly herded along by a group of Muscovites behind me and a small mental digression it was obvious… ProjectScotland. Full stop.

In conclusion, I can recommend PS to anyone who may be a bit aloof in their career decisions, but I warn you now - you may end up in Russia!

Dasvidanya! Alex Bunten

Great story Alex, £55 on its way. You don't have to go to Russia to tell us your news, e-mail us at
