I volunteered as an Assistant team leader helping young people decide what they could do that would be rewarding for their communities. We created a new sensory garden for an elderly peoples' home. We repainted benches, planted flowers, and now they have somewhere to sit outside, rather than being stuck in the building. Volunteering has given me better motivation and more confidence. Before, I'd laze around and expect a job to fall on my lap. Volunteering has taught me that I need to get out and do it myself! It was great to see the change in young people - they really came out of their shells, worked together and gained skills that will help them get jobs.
