#GivingTuesday is back!Posted on November 28, 2017
What do Yoda, Michelle Obama and Professor Dumbledore have in common?
They were all mentors!
This #GivingTuesday we’re encouraging you, (yes you!), to sign up as a mentor to support young people to get on in life. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a wizard to be a mentor! If you’re an optimist, have an open mind and are committed to helping young people, you are exactly what we’re looking for!
#GivingTuesday encourages people to do something good and this year we are asking you to sign up to be a mentor. Each year we support young people to gain new skills, get experience and meet new people through our twelve-week volunteering programme. We offer each young person a mentor to help them get the most out of the experience and this is where you come in!
Mentors provide support through giving up an hour of their time each week. Whether that’s over a coffee or meeting in a local community space, it’s an opportunity to find out how your volunteer is getting on during their placement and provide support and advice.
We know we’re bias but it’s a great way to support young people in Scotland. And it’s not just us that thinks so, many of our mentors have been with us for years! This is what James has to say about mentoring:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time mentoring at Project Scotland, it’s been great to get to know and support young people through their placements. The impact you can make with a relatively small time commitment is quite amazing. If anyone’s toying with the idea of mentoring – just go ahead and do it!”
So stop toying and start doing! This #GivingTuesday, pledge to support a young person to get on in life and sign up to become a ProjectScotland mentor.
