Kate’s Story – Mentoring

Posted on March 11, 2022

Congratulations to Kate for successfully completing ProjectScotland’s Employability & Volunteering Programme in Edinburgh. Kate was referred after hearing about ProjectScotland through college and was keen to get involved to help build her skills and confidence through volunteering.

Kate was also really interested in being matched with a ProjectScotland mentor to help her further develop her employability skills. Kate was matched with her mentor Lauren in August 2021. Over the last 6 months Kate and Lauren have been meeting weekly on Zoom. Kate really enjoyed being able to talk to someone new. She gave a 10/10 for having presentations and said the sessions were well planned by Lauren. She liked having images and slides to be able to understand things easier.

Lauren helped Kate identify some goals she would like to work towards and together they focused on updating Kate’s CV, practised writing cover letters, how to prepare for an interview and they also did some practice mock interviews too.

Kate would recommend having a mentor and said that mentoring has helped her, particularly with her confidence. Kate found practicing interview questions really useful as she liked being able to learn new skills to help her get a job in the future.
