Example opportunities

Home Basics – Home Basics Volunteer

Home Basics work to provide those most in need with basic furnishings, white goods, and other household items. As a Home Basics Volunteer your role can be tailored to suit you.  You can gain experience in a variety of areas in the organisations, including sales, furniture repairs and restorations, electrical item testing, and administrative duties.

Office/Yard Assistant - Equibuddy

Equibuddy is a registered charity that helps people of all ages, many with disabilities, poor self-esteem and learning difficulties, to reach their potential by teaching them to perform gymnastics on the back of a moving horse. Equibuddy are looking for a volunteer to assist with the day to day running of their busy office as well as assisting at riding/vaulting sessions and on the yard. The role will involve general administrative tasks  but there is also an opportunity for the volunteer to assist in the yard, working with the horses and users with riding and vaulting sessions. Full training will be given and the volunteer would gain valuable experience of the running of a small charity through carrying out a wide range of tasks, in both the ‘back’ and ‘front’ end.

PUBLICITY OFFICER - Interest Link

Interest Link Borders aims to improve the quality of life of children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and their carers in the Scottish Borders through volunteer befriending. The volunteer would be line-managed by and work principally with the Project Co-ordinator who would set tasks. They would also work with our four branch Co-ordinators to gather publicity material covering all our work.  The work would be varied and there would plenty of scope for creativity and to concentrate on tasks particularly suited to your interests.

PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity, caring for more than 490,000 pet patients belonging to people in need. They are looking for retail assistants to work in their charity shops and help raise funds for the animals. You will work on the shop floor helping customers, processing stock, operating the till and handling cash, and promoting public understanding of the work of the PDSA.
