Where to look?

You could start typing keywords into Google and find yourself getting deeper and deeper into the realms of the internet, or you could start right here and make your job hunt a little easier.

My World of Work

This website is great for getting an understanding of what skills you have and what skills jobs require. You can take quick online quizzes to find out what your strengths are, find handy hints and tips about making the most of your volunteering experience at interview, and in-depth information about what certain jobs involve.

Community Jobs Scotland (CJS)

Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) provides young people living in Scotland with paid jobs in third sector organisations. These roles give you the chance to work in a charity or community group for at least six months. You will improve your skills and gain great workplace experience. Working in a third sector organisation also means that you’ll be helping to improve your community. (Please be aware that these roles are restricted and you can find out more about who can apply on their website.)

JobCentre Plus

Universal Jobmatch is one of the largest jobsites in the UK. This service is streamlined and uses your CV to match your skills to available opportunities. You can register for an account and upload your CV (or get help creating one), set up email alerts, and keep track of all your applications in one place.

Career Centres and Local Libraries

We know that not everyone has access to a computer at home, or needs somewhere quieter to be able to focus – you can use your local libraries to access computers and the internet. Not only that, but your local library will also hold a great deal of information about local courses and adult learning opportunities.

Career centres are a great place to get face-to-face advice, find your local career centre here.

If you’re in Dumfries and Galloway we also recommend checking out the DG TAP which is updated weekly with new opportunities.

Which Sector?

Finding the perfect job can seem impossible. Choosing and focussing on one particular sector can be a good way to narrow down the search.
