“My mentor and I clicked straight away and I’m always looking forward to our meetings. We have such a nice time together and I learn a lot about business from her perspective as a manager. The meetings made me realise what areas of business I’m really interested in and helped to show me I’m on the right path with my business management and leadership college course. We have our ‘regular’ table where we meet for coffee and we recently completed the 11-mile Kiltwalk Dundee together!
Parental Employment Support (PES) mentoring has been so beneficial for me because I feel much more confident in myself and believe I’m able to achieve my goals; complete college and get a management job. Mentoring really helped build my self-esteem; I wouldn’t have been confident selling myself in an interview whereas now I would and know I have all I need.”
An extra element of Barbara’s development journey is that she’s actually the first PES mentee to now sign up to become a PES mentor herself! She wants to give back to the programme that helped her and is now feeling in a position to help someone else with their confidence.
